Yes, it’s over. We have a stove. It’s not installed, and won’t be for a good 3-5 days, but we have it tucked away fast asleep in the garage next to the new dishwasher.
It was truly an expedition. I set out to the Sears Service Center where I knew there were two scratch and dent Kenmore Elites. I knew the prices, but that’s all I knew. I also had contacted the Sears store which told me they didn’t have any White Elite’s in stock and couldn’t get them for 3-5 days. I decided to go back to the Sears store first to see if they had anything comparable to the Elite in that price range - all ranges were on sale - and the prices I got on the scratch and dents were about the same range as the new ones on sale. This was a good move.
I ended up finding out that there are actually three Kenmore Elite models - a low, medium and high end stove. I had been looking at the low end. The medium was about $300 more, and the high was way out of my league. I talked to the lady there and she told me they could actually have one delivered tomorrow at our house even if they didn’t have one in the store. Or, we could pick up on Monday. I told her that I knew there were two Elites down at the other place and I’d be back if they didn’t pan out.
I never went back.
I made a bee-line right for the two stoves and was surprised to find that one of them was marked down about $300 below what the new one was. But here was the catch, it was the medium priced ranged one that was lower. About 50% off its regular price. Now it was still more than that $500 deal we missed at lows. But this is an oven. Not only does it have all the features of the one I wanted, but it also has a split burner, digital controls for the burners and an extra rack - probably more. I scoped it out at Sears first, so I knew what the story was. I was so excited I could hardly stand it. It had two little knocks on it - neither which will be seen because they are on the slide in part.
Now, I’ve got to wait to use it. And there was no manual, so it will be 5-7 days before I get one and know what it all does….
